Are your kids into LEGO? They're invited to join one of our FIRST LEGO League teams, competing to build an autonomous LEGO robot!

About

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League is a powerful program that engages children in playful and meaningful learning while helping them discover the fun in science and technology.

At its core, FLL (FIRST Lego League) is a competition where teams are asked to design and engineer an autonomous LEGO robot, which can accomplish missions set by FLL. Teams need to research, build, and experiment, and by doing so, they live the entire process of creating ideas, solving problems, and overcoming obstacles, while gaining confidence in their abilities to positively use technology. The Teams will need to ‘think outside the box’ to solve all the challenges presented. Its a great introduction to real world technology problems, in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Over 140,000 children in 56 countries are currently active in FLL.

See FLL in action in this video:

Teams are composed of up to 10 kids, aged 9-16. We meet weekly (Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm) for 12 weeks between the 15th September and the 4th December. On an average night teams will research and design their robot, hear a bit about Jesus, eat some food and have a great time!

We are now accepting registrations for the 2010 Lego League season. Registration will be limited to 30 Children (due to team size restrictions) so be quick!

Unfortunately, a LEGO League team is not cheap to run. Each team needs to pay for a LEGO Mindstorm NXT Robot, Team Registration Fees, challenge sets, batteries, team T-Shirts and additional Lego. These costs are covered by each child paying $80 for the whole season.

Info/Registration:

Full information for our 2010 teams can be found in our FLL Info Sheet 2010 or at our:

A school holiday club held in July each year for Kids in school year 2-6.

Unfortunately Zest For Life is now over for 2010.

BUT…

Have a look at what we did this year, and dont miss out on joining us in July 2011!

Attention all Knights and Ladies!

If you are school years 2-6 you are invited to join us at Zest For Life 2010 as we embark on a medieval quest to find the one true King!

Zest For Life is a Kids Holiday Club located in Eastwood, and run by Macquarie Anglican Church.Previously, Zest For Life was held over 4 days in the April school holidays. This year, however, after much consideration, we moved it to the second week of the July school holidays (12th-14th July) to allow us to offer new extended hours (9:30am-3pm), and an exciting new program (including afternoon electives)!

This year Zest has a medieval theme, as we join a Knight and his Squire on their quest to find the one true King – a King who is worthy to be followed. As with any good quest, it is not for the faint hearted! Along the way we are sure to encounter adventurous Bible teaching, games, craft, drama, music & food. But fear not, for in the afternoon we will relax with a choice of afternoon electives including LEGO Robotics, Art & Design, Fun with Food, and Sports & Games.

Monday 12th – Wednesday 14th July 2010,
9:30am – 3pm
(Second week of the July School Holidays)

Zest is held at Macquarie Anglican Church
114 Lovell Rd, Eastwood.

Zest For Life aims to teach some of the important truths the Bible contains about Jesus, the one true King. It does this however in a fun Holiday Club style. Therefore each morning there will be Games, Craft, Drama, Music and much more. In amongst all of this, we will also supply Morning Tea & Lunch.

Lunch will be:

Monday – Pizza

Tuesday – Subway Rolls

Wednesday – BBQ

This year we are introducing a new aspect to Zest in the afternoons – namely Electives. Your child can choose one Elective, which they will participate in each afternoon over the three days. By being involved in the one Elective for 3 days, you child will have the opportunity to develop a skill in that area. Electives this year include:

LEGO (including Robotics, Programming & General play)

Fun in the Kitchen

Art & Design

Sports & Games

You child should come dressed for fun. This includes a Hat (with name in it), Sunscreen (if its sunny!), Jumper (with name in it, if cold weather), and shoes they can run in.

Zest For Life costs $55 per child for the full 3 days (just pay in cash when you sign your child in on their first day). This price includes all meals (morning/afternoon tea & lunch), and materials. If your child is only able to attend for 1 or 2 days, we are able to offer a 1 day rate of $25, or $40 for 2 days.

Zest for Life” Holiday Club is part of the Kid’s program of Macquarie Anglican Churches. We are the team who also run “Dare to be Different” and “3-5 Alive“. The team of volunteers is led and coordinated by Tim Adams, the Children’s Minister at Macquarie Anglican Churches. All members of the team comply with state child protection protocols.
